Hollande unveils tough new 75% tax for France's top earners as part of 'soak the rich' budget

图片
France today unveiled a 'soak the rich' budget that hammered big business and the wealthy in a high-risk strategy 'to get the country back on the rails'. Francois Hollande – France’s first Socialist president since Francois Mitterrand in the 1980s – outlined a £24 billion austerity package in the harshest budget for 30 years. But to the dismay of business leaders who fear an exodus of top talent, the centrepiece was a 75 per cent super-tax on incomes over £800,000 a year. Taxman: President Francois Hollande claims the spending plan for next year would win the 'battle' against joblessness There was also a new 45 per cent band for earning over £120,000 and business lost a series of tax breaks. Critics said it risked driving entrepreneurs and the wealthy overseas – including to London – and voiced alarm over the decision to impose £16 billion of tax rises and just £8 billion of spending cuts. But French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault insist

How the eggs factor reveals your personality: Outgoing people like them poached while frying fans are hot stuff in bed

图片
Poached, scrambled, boiled or fried. We all have our preference for how to cook an egg. But the choice reveals more than just our culinary tastes – it also highlights our personalities and reveals secrets about social class and even sex drive. Scientists quizzed 1,010 adults and found that poached egg eaters are outgoing, boiled egg lovers are disorganised, fried egg fans have a high sex drive, scrambled egg aficionados are guarded and omelette eaters are self-disciplined.  Daily Mail readers were shown to prefer scrambled eggs. The study for the British Egg Industry Council was carried out by Mindlab International, which researches the psychology of consumer choice. It found that the average poached egg-eater is likely to be happier than most. Boiled egg-eaters run the greatest risk of getting divorced.   Fried egg fans are usually from the skilled working class and scrambled eggs are favoured by those without children. 图片
Apart from a sticky moment when he did not know what the words 'Magna Carta' meant (Latin detention for you this weekend, Cameron minor!) the Prime Minister survived his interrogation on CBS Television’s Late Night show with David Letterman.
