Anything Brad can do! As Pitt set to wed Angelina Jolie, ex-wife Jennifer Aniston announces her engagement...
Many feared that queen of the romcom
Jennifer Aniston might never find lasting love in real life.
But now the former Friends star has proudly let the world know she is to marry.
And in doing so, she's finally upstaged her ex-husband Brad Pitt and the woman he left her for.
For news of her engagement was released as rumours continued to swirl around Hollywood that Pitt and his fiancée Angelina Jolie will be wed this weekend in a lavish ceremony.
Miss Aniston's boyfriend Justin
Theroux proposed on Friday on the set of her latest film, We're The
Millers.
The 43-year-old actress — who's starred in a steady stream of romantic comedy films since the end of the phenomenal TV hit Friends — had at the same time suffered the failure of so many love affairs after the end of her marriage to Pitt.
But she has been dating 41-year-old Theroux, an actor and screenwriter, for the past year, and recently declared: 'Yes, I'm very happy. I'm extremely lucky, and I'm extremely happy.'
A spokeswoman for Theroux — a cousin of British documentary-maker Louis Theroux — confirmed: 'Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage.'
Miss Aniston's marriage to Pitt ended in January 2005 after he fell in love with Miss Jolie on the set of their film Mr & Mrs Smith in 2004.
Pitt soon took over parenting duties of the star's adopted son Maddox, and the couple now have three biological children of their own. They also have two other adopted children.
It is being widely predicted that Pitt, 48, and Miss Jolie, 37, will marry this weekend in a lavish ceremony at their estate, the £35 million Chateau Miraval, in the South of France.
Mickael Latz, mayor of the nearby village of Correns, claimed it is 'more likely' the wedding will take place on Saturday.
Their engagement was revealed in April after Pitt presented Miss Jolie with a £159,000 diamond ring.
Following
her marriage split, Miss Aniston's high-profile romances made the
headlines, most notably the one with womanising rock singer John Mayer —
nine years her junior.
She had previously had a long-term relationship with actor Vince Vaughn, her co-star in The Break Up, before their split in 2006.
She then dated British model Paul Sculfor for a few months in 2007, before moving on to her on-off romance with Mayer, 34.
Theroux, who has never been married, fell under the microscope after first being linked with Miss Aniston last May.
It transpired that he had only recently broken up with his girlfriend of 14 years, Heidi Bivens.
The well-respected fashion stylist, who has worked at Vogue, was said to be 'blindsided' by his actions.
Miss Aniston recently confessed
to being annoyed by the fact that she was seen to be unlucky in love,
adding: 'It's very narrow-minded, I think. It doesn't measure the level
or my happiness or success in my life and my achievements or any of
that.'
Just before meeting Theroux, she said she did plan to become a mother, and admitted: 'I think people honestly just want to see me as a mom and married and barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. And I just want to say, “Everybody, relax! It's going to happen”.'
In another recent interview, when asked if she was bothered that her personal life came under constant scrutiny, she said: 'A perfect life? I think that's sort of cliché, isn't it? Like, if you want to be happy, you should have the house, the husband, the kid . . . Kids are messy!'
Miss Aniston and Mr Theroux starred together in the comedy Wanderlust earlier this year.
Famously estranged from her mother Nancy, Miss Aniston also failed to inform her father, veteran soap opera actor John Aniston, of her engagement, it was reported yesterday.
The Days Of Our Lives actor, 79, told celebrity website Celebuzz: 'It's the first I've heard about it. It's a surprise to me.'
But he added: 'It sounds very romantic.'
The actor has described Theroux as a 'charming young man', and gave his seal of approval, saying: 'I think they make a wonderful couple.'

A brickie, a twitter addict, co-stars galore - Jen's dating disasters
When Jen Met Brad - 1998-2005: Hollywood’s
Golden Couple (and not just follically) were front-page news from the
moment they met in 1998 — and their marriage in Malibu in July 2000 was
the showbiz equivalent of the Moon landing. During the honeymoon period,
Jen received five Emmy nominations, as well as her biggest box office
hit — Bruce Almighty. Everything was perfect. What could possibly go
wrong?
Trouble in Paradise - 2005: Enter Angelina.
When Brad had his head turned by the man-eating star of Tomb Raider on
the set of Mr & Mrs Smith, poor Jennifer had no chance. Four days
after this holiday snap was taken, they announced their separation. And
with it, it seems, Jen’s world fell apart. The last series of Friends
had ended, and her movies Derailed and Rumour Has It were box-office
flops
A jealous Brad? 2005-6: What becomes of the
broken-hearted? They make a hit movie and rebound into the arms of their
new co-star. While he was no Brad Pitt (maybe that was comforting for
Jennifer), beefy Vince Vaughn — whom she met on the set of aptly named
The Break Up — provided the perfect distraction while the ink dried on
the divorce papers. The film was a smash hit, too
Brickie from Billericay - 2007: Following her
split with Vince after 15 months, Jen just wanted to have fun. First up
was Essex model and sometime builder Paul Sculfor, though they were
rarely pictured together
Owen and me - 2008: Owen Wilson, 43, seemed like
a good choice for Jennifer. He was likeable, funny, blond . . . and
most important, he starred opposite her in the film Marley & Me.
Jennifer likes nothing more than to date a co-star. Sadly, it didn’t
work quite as well as everyone had hoped and the dalliance fizzled out
soon after the film’s release. Part of a cynical marketing campaign?
Surely not!
He’s Just Not That Into You - March 2008-March
2009: Now firmly established as the world’s favourite tragic singleton,
Jen finally settled into a relationship with rock musician John Mayer,
34 . . . and promptly had another box office success with He’s Just Not
That Into You. Sadly, as with her Vince Vaughn project, the title was to
prove prophetic: after breaking up and then getting back together again
they finally split for good in 2009. The reason? His alleged non-stop
Twitter use
The Butler Did It - August 2009: No prizes for
guessing how Jen met Gerard Butler — of course it was on the set of a
new film, The Bounty Hunter. But, despite lots of touchy-feely pictures
during August, they refused to ‘go public’. Unsurprisingly, just weeks
later Jen was back hunting — this time for another man
Love Happens - September 2009: Ah, Love
Happens! The film responsible for throwing Jen and Aaron Eckhart
together! You know Aaron, right? And you remember the film? No? Well,
quite. Let’s move on . . .
The one with her friend’s ex-husband - 2010:
This snap of Jen and Chris Gartin, 37, actor and former husband of Jen’s
event-planner friend, Joanne Gartin, set Hollywood tongues wagging.
We’re sure there was nothing in it — after all, that’s why they both
seem so happy to be photographed together as friends, right?
Pure Wanderlust - 2011: When Jennifer and Justin
Theroux got together on the set of Wanderlust in May 2011, she insisted
that romantic speculation was simply ‘an easy rumour — but we’re just
friends. Nothing happened.’ At least — not while he still had the beard
Smooth operator - 2011-2012: One shave later
and Justin and Jen were very much an item — and by this year they’d
bought a £15 million Bel Air mansion, a dog and his ’n’ hers sunglasses.
Beautiful.
Happy ever after? They
announced their engagement on Friday, as they celebrated his 41st
birthday. Though they have been dating for only 15 months, they’ve been
friends through all Jen’s romantic disasters. Sounds like the perfect
plot for one of her movies.
