Alan Styles Sad to report that Alan Styles passed away yesterday in a US hospital, aged 75, after suffering from pneumonia. Alan was one of Pink Floyd's main road managers for many years, and is the subject of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast on the Floyd's album Atom Heart Mother, where he can be heard describing his breakfast experience.


He is shown on the back cover of Ummagumma, and in the picture above, standing on the left, next to Peter Watts and Roger Waters.

Where Pink Floyd? EMI Music has announced the start of the UK's first ever national Pink Floyd Treasure Hunt, inviting fans on a journey to search out and find hidden posters of all 14 Pink Floyd studio album sleeves in major towns and cities around the UK.

This continues EMI's massive 'Why Pink Floyd?' Remasters and reissues initiative that has seen the release of special editions of key Pink Floyd albums and remastered versions of all 14 studio albums. The treasure hunt invites fans to find one of 14 posters spread throughout 11 UK towns and cities across Great Britain for the chance to win a fantastic Cambridge Audio NP30 Network streaming music player plus a whole host of Pink Floyd limited edition box sets.

To enter, fans simply locate one of the posters, take a picture of themselves with the poster, and upload the picture to www.webdoc.com/pinkfloyd, where they will be able to enter a competition to win a Cambridge Audio NP30 streaming music player, a 'Discovery' box set featuring brand new 2011 digital remasters of all 14 Pink Floyd studio albums, plus incredible box sets of The Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. Five runners up will each win a copy of the 14-album 'Discovery' box set. Additionally, their photo will be added to the Pink Floyd treasure hunt gallery where fans can comment and share with their friends & followers.

Participants only need to find one poster to enter the competition and stand a chance of winning these great prizes, but if they are able to find more, then each new poster upload gives them the chance of another entry. For clues as to where to find the posters, fans should go to www.webdoc.com/pinkfloyd and begin their trail of rock discovery. Details of the locations and further clues will be seeded across Facebook and Twitter.

The 14 classic Pink Floyd studio albums featured in this groundbreaking competition are: The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn; A Saucerful Of Secrets; More; Ummagumma; Atom Heart Mother; Meddle; Obscured By Clouds; The Dark Side Of The Moon; Wish You Were Here; Animals; The Wall; The Final Cut; A Momentary Lapse Of Reason; and The Division Bell.

Pink Floyd Launch First Official Apple App Monday 14th November sees the launch of Pink Floyd's first App for Apple devices – This Day In Pink Floyd. Available through the 120 worldwide iTunes stores for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, at £1.99 (UK), $2.99 (USA), and an equivalent local price elsewhere, the application is designed to provide an involving experience, with information on the band's activities on every day of the year, trivia, an interactive quiz and complete song notes for every studio track released by Pink Floyd – 167 songs in total.

The App also includes much Pink Floyd imagery, expandable to the touch, a free ringtone of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', wallpaper of two classic Pink Floyd images and an embedded copy of the newly-restored 'Point Me At The Sky' video from 1968. It has a link to the user's iTunes library directly from each Song Note, so Pink Floyd tracks can be played while reading about the band's entire catalogue, and if the track is not in the user's library, there is link to purchase it from the iTunes Store. Presenter Redbeard explores the release of the Wish You Were Here Immersion five-disc box set with interviews from David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters. Late Night Floyd The NBC television show Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (Monday-Friday, 12.35 am ET) is in the middle of a week-long Pink Floyd celebration, which has already seen appearances by Nick Mason and Roger Waters.
On Monday, Nick was interviewed by Jimmy Fallon and answered viewers' Twitter questions. On Wednesday, Roger took to the stage with the Foo Fighters for a storming rendition of 'In The Flesh' followed by an interview where he not only talked about the infamous Pat Boone show but also confirmed that he was taking 'The Wall' back to North America next year.
The complete Pink Floyd Week schedule is:
  • Monday 26th: The Shins performed 'Breathe (In The Air)' from 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'. Nick Mason was interviewed by Jimmy Fallon.
  • Tuesday 27th: Roger Waters teamed up with Foo Fighters to perform 'In The Flesh' from 'The Wall'. Jimmy Fallon also interviewed Roger.
  • Wednesday 28th: MGMT performed 'Lucifer Sam' from 1967's 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'.
  • Thursday 29th: Country performer Dierks Bentley takes on 'Wish You Were Here'.
  • Friday 30th: Pearl Jam will conclude the week with their take on 'Mother' from 'The Wall'.

The Great Pig In The Sky London commuters were bemused this morning when, as promised, a new pig was floated above Battersea Power Station to mark the launch of the 'Why Pink Floyd?' campaign of 2011 remasters and collectors' editions. The Animals sleeve was recreated with the 2011 version of 'Algie' (the original has been put out to pasture) successfully inflated under grey skies, to amaze and astound passers by.
