I guess I just lost my balance': Taylor Swift plays little girl lost as she tries out edgier look in new music video I Knew You Were Trouble

She says the video is meant to depict a girl who changes everything about herself as she's falling in love.
And Taylor Swift seems to have jumped right into character to film the music video for her new single I Knew You Were Trouble.
The star, who turned 23 on Thursday, sports hot pink hair and an edgier style that's a marked departure from her usual good girl persona.

The nearly six-minute clip opens with Taylor waking up in a desert littered with trash from a rave that went into the early hours of the morning.
 

Flashbacks follow, of her meeting and then falling for a rock 'n' roll type guy while she delivers a monologue.

He takes her to concerts and instigates bar brawls; and in the quiet the lay in each other's arms.
Taylor, whose professed her love for looking like a Fifties housewife on at least one occasion, wears ripped T-shirts, leather boots and a bandage skirt in a few of several costume changes that track her character losing herself in the relationship.

'I don't know if you know who you are until you lose who you are,' she muses at the end of the clip, dropping a necklace he gave her.
The video premiered on MTV on Thursday.
The singer told the network the video is meant to reflect 'some sort of corruption'.

'Good girl is living her life, going about her, you know, daily life and all of sudden she runs into this force. This guy is just like a force,' she explained.
'She'll do anything to fit into his world, including change everything about herself.'
