Regardless, the picture has become an internet sensation with some dubbing the young girl flipping the finger as the 'best Santa photo ever'.
The cringing reaction of her similarly dressed sister suggests that the stern-faced girl may be indeed be reacting badly to a suggestion from the photographer or Santa - adding to the picture's humor.

Taken by a photographer at MWD Photography in Illinois on December 6th, it seems however, that the girl's innocence is preserved as the company's Facebook profile reveals she did indeed have a cut.

To back this up, in a later photograph she turns to Father Christmas to show off her hurt finger, no doubt ensuring that she remains on the 'good' list.
'Do not judge she was showing me her ouchy,' said a post on Facebook from MWD Photography confirming the slightly disappointing fact that the girl indeed had a cut.
