Duchess of Cambridge's extreme makeover: She's stuck in a beauty rut - now FEMAIL gives Kate a beauty overhaul using new M&S virtual technology

When you are the most photographed woman in the world it isn’t easy to try something new.
As the newest member of the royal family the pressure is on for the Duchess of Cambridge to look immaculate at all times. Her natural style and elegance has established her as one of our favourite style icons but the glossy posse are desperate for her to try some more fashionable looks.
Kate is slowly finding her fashion feet, introducing interesting new brands to her working wardrobe and continuing to mix high end with well chosen high street pieces. But her beauty routine is looking, well, a little dated.

Like lots of women, Kate found a make-up look that worked in her twenties and has stuck with it.
Kohl eyeliner, nude lip gloss and a swirl of peach blusher has been her signature beauty style for years.

In fact, the brunette is such a stickler for her make-up bag that she did her own make-up for her wedding to Prince William last year.
Understandably, experimenting with trendy new looks could spell disaster for somebody so consistently in the public eye.
With every move of hers so heavily documented even a new handbag can cause global outcry.
Which is where the virtual makeover - and the Femail team's trend-spotting talent - comes in.

The M&S clothing lines might be out of fashion, but the company has recently reviewed and relaunched its entire beauty offer, repackaging and improving all of its existing own brand products, introducing luxe new brands and entire beauty halls to major stores as well as taking advantage of new industry technology to make its customers look more beautiful.
The jewel in the crown of the new beauty department at the retailer is the brilliant virtual makeover tool.
Using declassified American army face-recognition technology the interactive makeover lets customers try thousands of different make-up looks and skin consultations 'virtually' from a photo online or in store by mapping their faces.
Featuring hundred of products and thousands of colour combinations the site lets you create a bespoke face or choose from one of their ready made looks - as seen on Kate above - which include Jet Set, Miami Hothouse and Festival.

Customers can than save their looks, chose to buy some of the recommended products or tweet email or Facebook their friends with the pictures for advice.
The try before you buy service will be welcomed by women who are feeling the pinch but still want to look glamorous, as well as those who, like Kate, might want to experiment with new styles without committing to a complete public makeover.
Obviously some of the looks that Femail have used on Kate are a bit outlandish for a Duchess.
But we hope that some of the trends we have tried might inspire some experimentation at Kensington Palace.
